As LA rents continue to rise, teachers and other LAUSD employees are being priced out of the neighborhoods where they work. As such, the school district, in partnership with affordable housing developer Adobe Communities, is developing workforce housing for employees who meet designated income criteria.
Scheduled for delivery in fall 2016, Selma Community Housing, the second of three LA Unified workforce housing projects approved by the LAUSD board, is rising at 1603 N Cherokee Ave in Hollywood, Urbanize LA reports. The first project, Sage Park Apartments, opened last month on a site on the north side of the Gardena Senior High School campus. The third project is Norwood Learning Village, a 29-unit complex near USC that also will be delivered next year.
Situated on a .65-acre site, the four-story, $32M Hollywood project includes 90, one-, two- and three-bedroom units, 62 of which will be rented to LAUSD employees. Rents will range from $550 to $1,272. The complex includes a children's outdoor play area. [ULA]
