Politicians Use Tech Tool To Listen To Property Industry On How To Tackle The Housing Crisis

London

A cross-party group of politicians is using a proptech tool to gauge ideas from the property industry on how to address the shortage of new homes being built in the UK.

A new All-Party Parliamentary Group for Housing Market & Housing Delivery has partnered with Built-ID to create a series of Give My View polls, aiming to provide a forum for industry leaders and innovators from across the residential sector to share their views with MPs who are focused on finding and fixing the problems in housebuilding capacity.

The UK has 1.2 million fewer homes than it needs, according to a study by BBC Housing Briefing in February. The study added that at current rates it would take 15 years to close that gap, and that not enough of what is being built is affordable.

All individuals involved in the residential sector are encouraged to take part in the Give My View polls, not just executives, the Parliamentary group and Built-ID said, as the MPs are keen to hear from a diverse range of organisations and individuals who collectively cover all conceivable points of view on housing provision. This insight will then provide parliamentarians with the thought-leadership and advice they need to provide political leadership in this field.

The Give My View stakeholder consultation went live on 12 November and closes on 11 December. A report detailing the results will be presented to Parliamentarians in January 2021 and subsequently shared with all stakeholders who participate in the consultation.

The initiative will “enable time-poor industry professionals to meaningfully engage with Parliamentarians who’re passionate about both finding and fixing the problems that underpin our housing crisis,” Built-ID CEO Savannah de Savary said.
