With Downtown prices out of reach of most young professionals, Houston-based Manzel Contemporary Homes is aiming to create stylish affordable housing for younger Houstonians by redeveloping some of the city’s aging apartment buildings.
The firm has already snapped up apartments at Southmore Boulevard near Highway 288 and plans to turn the 50-year-old building into the 16-unit Contempt Condos, according to the Houston Business Journal.
The target demographic is recent college grads earning $50k to $60k per year looking for a home in the otherwise high-priced areas close to Downtown.
Manzel will finish the homes as they are purchased, and prices start at $155k for an 850 SF condo. Each unit will take a month to build out and will feature hardwood floors, granite countertops, built-in USB ports and a pocket park. [HBJ]
