Walmart will expand its Baytown campus with a 1M SF distribution center, in another move toward addressing persistent supply chain issues.

The facility at 4633 Borusan Road will open in fall 2022, and it will be the fourth in Baytown for the retail giant.

“Walmart is excited to expand our Baytown campus and another step in Walmart’s continued investment in the state,” Mike Gray, senior vice president of supply chain operations at Walmart, said in a release. “The Baytown campus and our other regional facilities continue to bring exciting new career opportunities within Walmart’s modern supply chain to hundreds of residents of the Houston area — all while helping us provide our local customers their everyday necessities with more variety and efficiency than ever before.”

Walmart plans on hiring 300 for the facility, which is located inside Cedar Port Industrial Park, a major industrial hub in Baytown. The hub, which already hosts millions of square feet for Walmart and other retailers, has rapidly tacked on more projects recently, and it expects to deliver another 1.2M SF distribution center this May, among others.

“Southeast Texas is booming, and I am happy to see Walmart make significant investments in Baytown. The campus expansion will bring jobs and opportunity to the already diverse and strong Chambers County economy,” Texas state Sen. Brandon Creighton said in a release.

Also this week, Walmart announced a 1.8M SF spec distribution center in central Pennsylvania, part of a greater push to tackle supply chain delays. Target, too, announced four new centers this week to tackle supply chain woes, and it expects to increase capital spending to about $4B to $5B annually for several years.
