An appeal to stop Amazon’s plans for a €1B data centre in north Dublin has failed.

According to the Irish Times, Athenry-based engineer Allan Daly, who is also an objector to Apple’s stalled plans for an €850M data centre in Galway, had his appeal dismissed. That gives Amazon’s Irish unit, Amazon Data Services Ireland, the green light to build the centre.

The IDA told the appeals board that it views data-centre facilities and infrastructure as crucial to Ireland’s ongoing competitiveness.

In his appeal, Daly stated that Amazon has failed to provide data in terms of how much power from the grid the new centre would require.
