Property developer Quintain Ireland has secured planning permission for what it has dubbed Cherrywood’s first village centre.

The €65M mixed-use scheme will consist of 148 build-to-rent apartments, a large supermarket, plus additional retail and commercial units. Construction is set to start next year and be completed by late 2026.

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has approved the Cherrywood Village Centre plan, which includes a 29K SF supermarket, eight retail units, five food and beverage outlets, three business units and 2,100 SF of indoor community space.

Designed by architect Urban Agency, it also includes 148 one- and two-bedroom apartments and car parking and will be located on a 2.7-acre site featuring a new village green, with the buildings ranging from three to five storeys.

The approval comes with a number of conditions, including €4.2M in contributions from the developer for local services and infrastructure, including at least €487K toward the cost of the nearby Luas line.

Quintain plans to deliver more than 3,000 homes and 27 acres of green space in Cherrywood as part of an area master plan and has invested €156M to date, with 136 homes completed and occupied and another 215 under construction. The company has planning permission for a further 1,459, is seeking approval for 445 and said it hopes to build more.

In addition to planning permission for the village centre, Quintain has also secured permission for 55 homes in its T3 section of Cherrywood Village, including 21 two-, three- and four-bedroom houses and 34 two- and three-bedroom duplexes.

Other developers are also building homes in the Cherrywood area, with more than 2,000 completed of a planned total of about 10,500 units.
