Robust demand for hotel rooms in the Metroplex has spurred developers to add to DFW's stock of hotel rooms at a brisk pace in the last few years. And these are not just bland rooms in standard hotels.
A slew of new niche hotels, redeveloped buildings and otherwise cool hospitality properties have recently completed or are under development — there were 19,000 rooms in the pipeline as of late last summer, according to Lodging Economics, and many of those are starting to hit the market.
The following are six examples of cool new DFW hospitality properties.
The Statler Dallas

The Statler, which originally opened in 1956 as one of Conrad Hilton’s first convention properties, reopened in Dallas following a $255M redevelopment that preserved its midcentury flavor.
The property is now part of Hilton's Curio Collection, and as such it features some traditional elements — such as an underground cocktail lounge — as well as newer concepts, such as a large space with social games like bowling and table tennis.
Canvas Hotel Dallas

Canvas Hotel Dallas, formerly known as Nylo Dallas South Side, just opened on New Year's Day with a focus on art. The redevelopment of a century-old structure, the property offers a rotating collection of artwork in its common areas and room, as well as two art-inspired restaurants and lounges.
Deep Ellum Hostel

Hostels have come a long way in recent years. The idea of communal living on the road is still the same, but the details have been upgraded.
Opening last summer in a century-old building, the Deep Ellum Hostel offers a comfortable communal space and kitchen, as well as various millennial-friendly amenities, such as a book exchange and a vinyl record collection. The adjacent bar, Izkina, serves cocktails, Spanish wines and tapas-style plates.
Virgin Hotel Dallas

Virgin Hotels will be opening in Dallas this year in the Design District, where it will be among warehouses converted to stores, galleries and upscale restaurants. The property will also change the look of the neighborhood in a quite literal way, as its glossy white exterior changes as the sun, clouds and other lights hit the sculpture-like building.
Texican Court

Texican Court, an Americana motor court concept, opened in November in Irving’s Las Colinas Urban Center. The property pulls out all the stops to evoke an earlier (and partly mythical) style of travel, with retro-inspired rooms, three distinct courtyards, a circular pool, large wood-burning fire pits, rocking chairs and live music.
Canopy by Hilton Dallas Frisco Station

The Canopy by Hilton Dallas Frisco Station, now underway, is part of a four-brand hotel campus at the mixed-use Frisco Station. The thrust of the property is to be as locally flavored as part of a large hotel company can be.
For example, at check-in, every guest will receive a locally themed welcome gift representative of the surrounding neighborhood. Decor at the Canopy by Hilton Dallas Frisco Station will feature locally inspired design, furnishings and artwork.
Bonus: Peabody Hotel Dallas, With Ducks

The Peabody in Downtown Memphis is reportedly planning to open a Peabody in Roanoke, near Texas Motor Speedway. It will include a Texas version of the hotel's famed ducks that live in its lobby and parade for guests at certain times of the day.
