A wall-raising ceremony was held late last week to celebrate the rebuilding of the home of a celebrated Texas activist. A racist mob destroyed the structure in 1939.
Texas Capital, Trinity Habitat for Humanity and HistoryMaker Homes are joining forces to restore Opal Lee’s childhood home at 940 E. Annie St. in Fort Worth. Lee, known as the “Grandmother of Juneteenth,” is a racial justice advocate and was a driving force behind establishing Juneteenth as a federal holiday in 2021.

The home is being gifted to the 97-year-old Lee in recognition of her lifelong work educating people about the significance of Juneteenth, according to a release.
“Our goal with every home we build is to create a place where owners can feel a sense of pride, and we are deeply honored to be part of such a meaningful project,” HistoryMaker Homes CEO Nelson Mitchell said in a statement.
“Dr. Lee represents the very best of our community and our nation in her determination for racial justice, and there is no better way to express our profound gratitude than through her new home.”

Clint Madison and John Fancher joined Newmark Dallas as executive managing director and senior managing director, respectively. They bring more than 40 years of combined industry experience, leasing more than 14M SF throughout their careers. In their roles, Madison and Fancher will work with Executive Managing Directors Duane Henley and Nathan Durham and associate Natalie Serio to expand Newmark’s landlord representation business in DFW.

In the industrial division, Nathan Orbin and Kurt Griffin are now senior managing directors. Caleb McCoy and Michael Haggar were promoted to managing directors. Bo Puckett is a senior vice president, while J.M. Priddy was promoted to vice president. Kodie Comby is a senior associate.
In the office tenant representation division, Taylor Dickerson and Blake Waltrip advanced to executive vice president, joined by Rachel Gorney, who now is a vice president. JLL Capital Markets arranged a five-year, floating-rate loan on behalf of Lovett Industrial for Addison Innovation Center, an office-to-industrial conversion project at 16675 Addison Road in Addison. The lender is First United Bank and Trust Co. The JLL team was led by Senior Director Jarrod McCabe, while the bank’s team was led by Senior Vice President Brandon Brewer.
