One of the first big announcements made at the ICSC  convention in Vegas this week: Quiznos plans to develop up to 600 new stores nationwide by the end of 2010. (We snapped this one at 403 W. University in Denton Monday.) The new locations will include corporate-owned and Quiznos-funded JV  ownership opportunities. The corporate-owned locations are a departure from the company's traditional franchise model, Quiznos sources tell us. The company recently recapitalized and restructured its existing debt and equity structure to fund expansion. Ben Johnson, who runs the real estate news site okcreview.com, tells us “this is real evidence that a few forward-thinking retailers are sensing a bottom in the consumer economy and want to jump on the coming growth curve."
