Transwestern Volunteers Repack 9 Tons Of Food For Greater Chicago Food Depository

On July 29, 52 Transwestern employees, including CFO Steve Harding, spent the morning helping the Greater Chicago Food Depository repack food and other items that will be provided to the nearly 812,000 individuals served by the Depository’s network each year. In just over two hours, the Transwestern team repacked 18,418 pounds of bulk sweet potatoes and carrots into individual boxes for distribution to GCFD clients and member agencies.

The need for the Depository’s services is especially great in the summer, when just 13% of the children who receive subsidized lunches during the school year have access to the district’s summer meals program. GCFD and its partners aim to fill that gap by providing free meals to children 18 and under at designated Kids Cafes and other distribution sites throughout the city.

Shown: Transwestern CFO Steve Harding was among the 52 volunteers from the firm who participated in the food packing event.
