Commercial Real Estate Gives Back for the Holidays

We love to highlight the commercial real estate community’s generosity and charitable spirit around the holidays. Cushman & Wakefield Chicago partnered with the Greater Chicago Food Depository to strike out hunger, holding its 2nd Annual Holiday Food Drive, led by the office and industrial property management teams. (Pictured: C&W industrial property manager Eric Gustafson.) With a total donation of 3,953 pounds, equivalent to 3,214 meals for families and individuals in need, the event was a record-breaking success. “Community involvement is a top priority for C&W,” industrial property management group senior managing director Victoria Knudson says.

Bradford Allen senior managing director Joel Berger sits on the associate board of Make a Wish Illinois and is an active wish-granting volunteer. After chairing the 4th Annual “Walk & Run for Wishes” last month, which raised $200k, Joel and his wife Elizabeth were granted a new wish child named Marshall, who dreamed of meeting Derrick Rose and other NBA stars at the NBA All-Star Game. It can take years to make this wish come true due to the high demand, so BA director John Millner stepped up and donated some season tickets and an exclusive pass for Fan Appreciation Day to a very excited Marshall (pictured with DRose) and his family.

JC Anderson recently attended The Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS (DIFFA) annual Dining by Design event at the Merchandise Mart, where they partnered with Valerio Dewalt Train Associates to design and build a booth/dining experience for the event. Snapped: Valerio Dewalt Train designer Kurt Volkman and his wife Stella, JC Anderson VP William Burfeind and his wife Kara and JC Anderson president Michael Yazbec with his wife Lynn.

Valley Fire Protection Systems’ Michelle Porter (above) tells us her firm did a coloring contest with the Merrillville Indiana School Corp for Fire Prevention Week to make young children aware of the danger of fire and what they can do if they should experience one. Three schools’ 1st and 2nd graders took part. Valley Fire Protection’s John Carter owns a fire truck, so the company took it up to each school when they awarded the winners. “The students were overjoyed to come out to see a fire truck and learn about fire safety,” Michelle says.
