Oprah's Selling Out of Her Hometown

Oprah Winfrey continues to cut her ties to the city where she became famous. The media titan recently sold her 9,625 SF Water Tower Place condo in Chicago for $4.6M.

The sales price is a far cry from Winfrey's original list in January 2014: $7.75M. She removed the listing in August 2014 and never relisted it publicly.

The condo was assembled from four units over a 10-year period from 1985 to 1994. She paid $3.6M for three of the units. Winfrey sold the condo in separate transactions to a River North liability company.

Winfrey has divested her Chicago real estate holdings in recent years, often at losses, as she moved Harpo Studios to Los Angeles, home of her Oprah Winfrey Network. The most notable sale: Sterling Bay's $32M purchase of the Harpo Studios campus last year. [Trib]
