Construction Begins on Wirtz Lakeview Apartment Building

Construction is underway on Wirtz Realty's planned 19-story apartment building at 2950 N Sheridan in Lakeview. Wirtz originally planned this as a condo project in 2008 before the market's collapse. The 82-unit building will now be a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments priced from $2,900 to $6k per month. There were concerns the steel and glass structure would tower over, and distract from, the neighborhood's vintage residential architecture. Wirtz added landscape elements designed to lessen the impact on surrounding buildings that go above and beyond the requirements of local ordinances. The project also calls for 200 parking spaces, 50 bicycle parking spaces and a 3,818 SF green roof. It's expected to deliver in late 2017. [Crain's]
