Method Products helped lead a revival of the Pullman area on Chicago’s Far South Side, and the soap manufacturer is set to bring hundreds of additional jobs to the neighborhood.

SC Johnson, Method’s parent company, agreed to lease the new 400K SF distribution center in Pullman Crossings, an industrial park developed by the nonprofit Chicago Neighborhood Initiatives and Minneapolis-based Ryan Cos., according to Crain’s Chicago Business.

San Francisco-based Method opened its first Pullman Crossings factory and distribution center in 2015 and will now shift distribution operations into the new 400K SF building. The company will use the first location strictly to manufacture its environmentally friendly products, CNI President David Doig told Crain’s.

CNI has steadily attracted tenants to Pullman Crossings. The former site of Ryerson Steel, it now hosts a 140K SF Amazon-Whole Foods Midwest distribution center, the Method Products factory and Gotham Greens’ 100K SF greenhouse at 10636 South Woodlawn Ave.

Amazon also continues to expand at Pullman Crossings. In the spring, the city granted Ryan Cos. a building permit for a 145K SF distribution facility at 100500 South Woodlawn Ave., and the internet giant said it plans to occupy the facility.

It’s just one part of Amazon’s push to expand across the Chicago metro area as it prepares to meet the escalating demand for essential items. The company confirmed in late April that Venture One Real Estate will build it a 1.2M SF fulfillment center in south suburban University Park.
