Whitehall Hotel owners Su-Mei Yen and Hui-Hsein Bert Yen have ambitious plans for the Streeterville hotel heading into 2016. The couple wants to add an additional 108 rooms to the 222-key hotel at 105 E Delaware Pl.
The Yens refinanced the Whitehall last month with a $36M loan that allowed them to pay off a $25.1M senior loan and mezzanine debt of $6.1M. Downtown hotel development has been red hot this year but, as Crain's notes, most of that activity has been south of the river. There are rumblings demand won't keep up with supply. So seeing the possibility of added development north of the river can be viewed as encouraging.
The Yens are hoping to get in on the action in this cycle. They previously announced plans to build a 29-story Hilton at 1101 S Wabash.
