Oxford Capital's plans to turn the Atlantic Bank Building into a hotel are more ambitious than anticipated. The Londonhouse developer is seeking city approval to add height to the 12-story building, which would exceed the original designs of the building's architects.

Oxford wants to add five stories to the property at 168 North Michigan Ave, in addition to the 210 rooms it has planned for the structure. The firm of Marshall and Fox originally intended the building to be 16 stories, according to Chicago Architecture Blog.

Oxford bought the building for $20M last December. It's two blocks south of Londonhouse and will give Oxford a sizable hotel footprint along the Chicago River. An Oxford affiliate purchased the Days Inn Chicago in Lakeview last month, with plans to turn it into an upscale boutique hotel. [CAB]
