The sprawling redevelopment around the United Center is taking clearer shape, with developers releasing a new look at an upcoming music venue.

The 1901 Project dropped renderings of its 6,000-person capacity Music Hall, the main component of the project's first phase of development. The venue is slated to open in 2028.
"We aren't trying to build a smaller arena," Danny Wirtz, Chicago Blackhawks CEO and co-chair of the United Center joint venture, said in a statement. "We're creating a venue around what makes live music powerful in the first place — the connection between an artist and their fans."
The venue aims to provide space for up-and-coming acts as well as established acts seeking a more intimate environment, developers said in the release. The Music Hall will be near an on-site 180-room hotel, dining and retail, providing infrastructure for consistent foot traffic.
Across all development phases, The 1901 Project represents a $7B investment that will redevelop more than 55 acres around the United Center into a mixed-use neighborhood. This includes housing, retail, hospitality, offices, public spaces and parks.
“The 1901 Project is about creating a place that is active well beyond an event or game night, and the Music Hall embodies that vision,” Michael Reinsdorf, Chicago Bulls CEO and co-chair of the United Center joint venture, said in a release.
The Chicago City Council officially approved the project in February 2025, and construction is underway on the first phase of development.
The multiphased plan is set to take 10 to 15 years to complete, with the final phase expected to conclude in 2040.
