AQUA'S BLU

The Carlson Hotel Group and Magellan Development found a brilliant way to celebrate the symbolic groundbreaking of the Radisson Blu hotel (located in the already-built Aqua Tower). They ate a model of the tower made out of cake at the Chicago Greater Food Depository.

Magellan's Jim Lowenberg and Joel Carlins consume their building. The Magellan project services team is managing the construction of the 343 guest rooms along with a 14k SF ballroom and plenty of meeting space. There will also be a split-level bar, which requireslowering the floor of the first story of the hotel. (If guests on that floor suddenly feel shorter, it doesn't mean you've hit the mini-bar too hard.) Bovis Lend Lease is the contractor on the job and LLVP is the architect.
Carlson also named the hotel's GM, Pierre-Louis Giacotto, who most recently managed the Sofitel Hotels in Chicago (both Michigan Ave and O'Hare). Here's Pierre-Louis showing us where the ballrooms will be located. The Aqua will be the first US location for the European brand Blu and will share the fitness center, indoor and outdoor pools, running track, and business center already being used by hotel and condo residents in the tower.
