Skanska USA was awarded the $113M contract to construct a four-story, 244K SF recreation center at Boston College, the company announced Friday. The project will replace the Jesuit university’s Flynn Recreation Complex, which has been the main gym on campus since 1972.

“It is our mission to build this essential facility in the safest and most efficient manner, while respecting students, faculty and staff throughout the process,” Skanska USA New England Building Operations General Manager Kerim Evin said in a statement.

Construction of the facility is underway at the former site of the Edmond’s Hall dormitory, which was demolished in 2016. Designed by architecture firm Cannon Design, the fitness facility will maintain BC’s Gothic building aesthetic. Inside, the building will feature four basketball courts, three tennis courts, lap and instruction pools, two multi-activity courts and multi-purpose rooms for yoga, spin and other fitness classes.

The project will be named in honor of BC Trustee Margot Connell and her family. Construction is expected to be complete by summer 2019.
