The $1k scholarship awarded to John by his landlord, The Winn Cos, will come in handy this fall when he starts at American University. Winn focuses on owning and managing affordable and military housing nationwide and gave scholarships to 22 of its residents in 14 states. Winn CEO Gilbert Winn considers the scholarships a “down payment” on the future of its residents. John lives at Boston's Westminster Court and plans to major in psychology and political science.
