Exelon just put the Boston Edison power plant (Summer and First streets) up for sale, leaving bidders salivating for the chance to redevelop 18 acres of South Boston waterfront property. It's a rare opportunity for a mixed-use project so close to the Seaport District.
At least a half-dozen developers have bid on the site (which isn't used for energy anymore, except during periods of peak demand), according to the Boston Globe.
Exelon hasn't commented on future use, though there is some question since the state DEP blocked the site's use as housing. However, there have been years of extensive cleanup, so a reversal isn't out of the question. [Globe]
