The hand of Richard Bertman—the “B” in CBT Architects—is all around Boston: Atlantic Wharf at the waterfront, 111 Huntington Ave at the Pru, the redevelopment coming at Center Plaza in Government Center and Liberty Mutual’s new HQ building in Back Bay. In designing the bridge that connects the insurer's new building to an older one, Richard’s creative process was similar to the one he undergoes when doing his art: “It’s about exploring the special nature of what you’re trying to express.” Richard's latest art show opens tomorrow at the Cotuit Center for the Arts on Cape Cod and runs through Aug. 24.

His intention in designing the all glass suspended bridge spanning Liberty Mutual's two masonry office buildings was to be light and transparent, keeping open the view corridor down the street. The aim of his art show, Let Me Entertain You, is to immerse viewers in enjoyment through the 11 kinetic sculptures and 16 pen and ink drawings on display.

In art and architecture, Richard tries to make something pleasing to look at yet compelling enough to hold a viewer’s attention—or in this case a finger. (If you go to the show on the Cape, don’t worry about the man-eating fish; they have been fed.)
