A state hearing to allow a proposed 775-foot tower in Winthrop Square to sidestep existing shadow laws has been scheduled for Tuesday. The bill that could change the state law has been sponsored by Rep. Aaron Michlewitz (D-Boston), whose district includes Winthrop Square, the Boston Business Journal reports.
The bill is expected to call for a cap on height for future development proposals after the Millennium Partners tower is built. The matter was passed to the state after a five-hour city hearing in April over whether or not the building should be allowed to cast new shadow over Boston Common and the Public Garden. The City Council voted 10-3 in approval of the home rule petition.
Millennium Partners has promised to pay the city $153M for the site to build the $1B tower. The public hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the State House.
