A second attempt will be made to redevelop the industrial site that was once the headquarters of Intel.

Newton-based developer National Development is moving forward with plans to build a 950K SF industrial project at 75 Reed Road in Hudson, where Intel called home for more than 25 years, according to a Nov. 20 press release.

The developer already has begun to demolish the site and expects to complete demolition in the first quarter of 2026.

National envisions the space at 75 Reed Road as a good fit for advanced manufacturing, distribution and logistics.

“This site has incredible potential to support a high-quality employer, create good local jobs, and generate meaningful economic growth for the town," said Katie Snyder, National Development senior vice president of development, in a statement.

The site was once home to more than 2,000 Intel employees at its peak. In 2022, Intel moved some of those employees to another space the company leases in the town of Harvard, The Register reported in 2024. In 2023, the company also signed a 98K SF lease at Campanelli and Trigate's 200 Beaver Brook Road in Boxborough.

This plan comes after another attempt at redeveloping the site didn't cross the finish line.

In 2022, Atlanta-based Portman Industrial filed plans for a 1.3M SF logistics project there.

The proposal was met by local opposition. A group of residents and a day care center sued Intel, which still owned the site at the time, saying the plans violated Hudson zoning rules, Boston Business Journal reported.

Portman Industrial pulled out of its plans in November 2022, citing uncertainty with securing local and state permits and rising interest rates.

National acquired the 148-acre property from Intel in 2023 for $12M, with the chip manufacturer leasing the 1.4M SF property until May 2025.
