Amazon Cancels Plans For A Braintree Warehouse

Amazon Wanted To Operate A Last-Mile Delivery Facility From 175 Campanelli Drive In Braintree.

The South Shore isn’t getting a taste of Amazon’s Greater Boston warehouse expansion after all.

Amazon has called off plans for a 200K SF Braintree distribution center at a vacant United Liquors warehouse. Braintree Mayor Joseph Sullivan touted the center as a major job creator last year, with as many as 15 full-time employees along with 100 to 150 part-time employees, up to 300 third-party delivery drivers and as many as 500 Amazon Flex drivers who deliver packages from their personal vehicles.

But Sullivan said last week a lawyer representing Amazon and the owner of the warehouse told him plans had been called off, the Boston Business Journal reports.

It is a different story north of Boston in Revere, where Amazon announced in mid-October plans for a delivery station in the former NECCO plant. Slated to open in 2020, the facility will employ hundreds and become Revere’s largest employer.

Amazon did not say if the Revere plans impacted the Braintree warehouse deal.
