Ann Klee is moving from one Boston headquarters company to the next.

The former General Electric executive, who oversaw the search that sent GE from Connecticut to Boston in 2016, is Suffolk’s new executive vice president, the Boston-based construction company announced Monday. Klee will oversee the company’s national business development as well as external and government affairs.

“I’m excited to be joining Suffolk as it transforms the construction industry,” Klee said in a statement. “It’s the perfect opportunity to use my private and public sector experience to work with a great leadership team to help achieve [Suffolk CEO and Chairman] John Fish’s transformational vision of a wing-to-wing platform that meets our clients’ needs.”

While at GE, Klee was the former blue-chip company’s vice president of Boston development and operations. She oversaw the renovation of the Fort Point Channel warehouses that became the firm’s new headquarters and worked closely with government leaders and members of the community. During that time, GE scaled down its planned Boston headquarters and eliminated a planned 12-story second phase along the Fort Point Channel waterfront.

Klee was also president of the GE Foundation, which led an initiative to support STEM education in Boston Public Schools as well as address the opioid epidemic. She was also vice president of environment, health and safety at GE.

She left GE at the end of September but told the Boston Globe she hoped to stay in Boston.

Her arrival at Suffolk coincides with the company’s ongoing rebrand to expand beyond construction into new service lines like real estate funding, design, technology investment, and research and development.
