| With six multifamily projects being planned, under way, or recently completed, Wood Partners is one of the busier developers in metro Boston. So, it's surprising that the Atlanta-based firm only opened its office in Boston (as in Lexington) three years ago. We snapped Wood?s director for the New England-New York region,Rick Dickason who's excited about his team?s progress since the dark days of ?08. Despite the difficulty finding buildable Boston sites, Wood likes this market because the regional economy has remained vibrant thanks to the constant inflow of students and biotech workers. |
| Rick, here with development VP Kevin Maley, tells us that Wood is in a good financial position to be developing because it exited the condo market in ?05 and has an ongoing relationship with several equity partners. In a few days, Rick expects to start vertical construction on a $30M, 116-unit rental apartment project in Arlington on four acres once occupied by a Brigham?s ice cream factory. Demolition was completed mid-September, when someone left the building out in the sun. |
| Sonia Cabral confers with construction manager Rob Wohead about projects under way, like Alta Stone Place in Melrose. Construction started a few weeks ago on the $55M, 212-apartment development at the old Boston Rubber Shoe Co complex. Features of the old mill buildings will be preserved in the renovation and new construction will be added. Meanwhile, in July, construction was completed on the 154-unit Alta at Indian Woods in Stoughton, which is 93% occupied, Rick tells us. He has three more projects in the pipeline and may open another office in the NYC tristate area. Hint: he's looking for ?that right person? to run it. |
