A 100-acre plot next to Jaguar Land Rover's Wolverhampton plant is to go before planners, as Midlands Engine growth plans pick up speed.

A planning application for a 60-acre first phase extension of the i54 site occupied by JLR will go before South Staffordshire planners in the spring. This plot is owned by Wolverhampton City Council.

A second phase of 40 acres will be promoted separately by Midlands Land Portfolio, the property vehicle of Severn Trent, the water utility.

JLR opened its £500M engine plant at the 239-acre i54 site in 2014. The site has now attracted £1B of investment from JLR and other occupiers in the manufacturing sector targeted by the Midlands Engine growth plans.

The Western Extension at i54 will include two options: for a single 1M SF warehouse or manufacturing unit, or for several units totalling 914K SF.

If outline planning consent is granted, work on the extension's link road could begin in 2019 and be ready for occupation in 2021-2015.

Earlier this year Stafford council approved plans for a 52-acre JLR car-storage site at Stone.
