Amazon Streams Into The Midlands

The answer to the puzzle 'Who will take the first units at the 6M SF East Midlands Gateway' could be Amazon.

Amazon is close to taking a 500K SF warehouse at Segro's 700-acre East Midlands Gateway inland port.

The Amazon signing would be the debut deal at Segro's 6M SF rail freight terminal near Nottingham, Midlands Business Insider reports. A second deal, which would see third-party logistics provider XPO sign up for 700K SF. Neither tenant has been confirmed by the developer, although they have said that deals with a leading online retailer and a third-party provider were imminent.

The site, one of the fruit's of Segro's partnership with Roxhill, was launched in October.

Segro is funding £100M of infrastructure at East Midlands Gateway including a 50-acre rail terminal and extensive road improvements, designed to give the best possible connectivity to the 10 plots now available to occupiers.

A partnership with Highways England and other highways authorities means there will also be £35M of road improvements associated with East Midlands Gateway, including better connections at Junction 24 and Junction 24A of the M1.
