Developers Omnia Group and North Wind Group are in the midst of transforming a former Salvation Army shelter on the Lower East Side into a brand-new hotel.

The developers acquired the site, a 10-story, 55k SF building at 225 Bowery, in 2014 for a little north of $30M. The redevelopment project will expand the building by four stories, and absorb a recently demolished three-story structure at 223 Bowery, NY Yimby reports.

The new structure will be a 14-story, 200-key Ace Hotel with a roof terrace and gym. Plans call for a 130-seat restaurant and retail on the ground floor, while a bar is on tap for the hotel’s 11th floor. HAKS has been tasked with design.

The new Ace Hotel is just steps away from the artistically adorned 190 Bowery, which Aby Rosen’s RFR Realty is working towards repositioning into an office building[NYY]
