    8 Indoor Sports Spots in NY to Try This Winter

    The weather is getting colder and the inevitability of winter is in the air. But that doesn’t mean you have to give up some of your favorite activities. Luckily you have Bisnow to point you in the right direction. Here are some fun indoor spots that are sure to keep you from experiencing the winter blues.

    Probably the most well-known sports facility in New York City, Chelsea Piers is on 28 acres overlooking the Hudson. And if you think the snow is going to hold you back from channeling your inner Misty Treanor, think again, because Chelsea Piers has NYC's only indoor sand volleyball court. There's also a six-lane, 25-yard pool; a quarter-mile indoor track; indoor batting cages; fitness studios with innovative new crazes like Shark Tank's SurfSET Fitness classes (kind of like yoga on a surfboard); cardio; and strength training.     Sports: Parkour training, obstacles, tumbling and trampoline, tricking, breakdancing, capoeira, aerial silks, acro floor, etc.

    If you want to see what it's like to compete on a Ninja Warrior-style course, or even train for next season, this is the place to be. It offers actual Ninja Warrior training on popular obstacles like the warped wall and the salmon ladder. And actual stars from the show are known to pop in and help out. We're talking show staples like Joe "The Weatherman" Morovsky, Bryan and Chris Wilczewski, Geoff Brittan, Mike Bernado and Melanie Robin.

    Leave it to Brooklyn to turn a sport for retirees into a fun new pastime for 20 and 30-somethings. This Gowanus hangout has 10 shuffleboard courts with palm trees and park benches. There's also a bay for food trucks and a DJ booth. And all of this is possible because of $2M worth of donations through Kickstarter and other investors.

    This gym and entertainment space is in a former airplane hangar and offers everything from camps and sports to concerts and festivals. There are two NHL-sized ice rinks and a 35-foot rock climbing wall, plus a sports bar and catering. It also has a childcare center and free parking for over 2,000 cars.

    This "Wall Street Country Club" is just a couple of years old. It has a limited membership of roughly 130, including celebrities like Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon. Members pay a $5k initiation fee plus $7,500 a year in dues. For that amount they can entertain clients and enjoy smoothies, protein shakes and stiffer drinks at the café. There's also a chiropractor, a physical therapist, a yoga instructor, acupuncture, massage, and personal coaching. George Zahringer of Deutsche Bank says it's basically as close to an Olympic training golf facility indoors as you can get...and he played in the 2003 Masters Tournament and was the British Senior Amateur Champion. So, yeah. It's pretty nice.

    For those who can't get into Golf & Body NYC, this is a newer indoor golf facility. In fact, it just had its grand opening this summer. It re-creates some of the most famous courses on a 10.5-foot-tall by 15-foot-wide screen. You can even have your swing analyzed on every shot, while a cloud-based profile monitors your performance. Lessons from PGA instructors are also available.

    Sports: Pilates, yoga, Thai bodywork, neuromuscular therapy, antigravity yoga, meditation

    Owner Courtney Bauer offers a number of classes that combine yoga, Pilates and Thai massage so you can get a workout without even realizing it. Restorative poses include wrapping yourself up like a cocoon.
