You know you’re on to something when in a little over a month, you have 35,000 new accounts using your software. The DC-based Macaw team, made up of Danny Kleinman, Brandon Jones, Tom Giannattsio, and Adam Christ, developed a visual design tool to work like Photoshop but for web design with HTML and CSS. Tom says the biggest reaction has come from the fact that the web design can be automatically converted to code. Designers always thought that would be impossible

Macaw, which works out of canvas.co, famously raised $75k in the first 24 hours of a $275k Kickstarter campaign last October. Tom says he’s considering more fundraising this year and is talking to VCs about building out a suite of products that could compete with Adobe, which has a grip on print design but it’s stumbled on the web stuff. Adobe has reached out to the four-person team to work on some Photoshop features.
