WACO: Cashing in on the New Baylor Stadium

Houston-based Asset Campus Housing will break ground next month on the 564-bed luxury student housing project, The Domain at Waco, less than a mile from the Baylor University campus. The temporary leasing center will open this summer, and the community will open for residents in August 2015. Asset Campus Housing SVP Barrett Kirk (here with his wife Nicole and three and a half-year-old son, Hudson, whose student housing currently involves a nap pad and a Lego fort) tells us Waco has been on the firm’s radar for a few years (it doesn't hurt that there are Baylor grads on staff). The key was locating the best available site for the project.

With Baylor’s new $250M McLane football stadium opening this fall and many university expansions, there’s a lot of buzz on campus, Barrett tells us. The upscale student housing will have a mix of one-, two-, and four-bedroom units with bed/bath parity. (This is clearly not the dorms we lived in at Baylor with communal showers down the hall.) Students today want and expect more than their parents did when they went to college, Barrett says. In addition to the private bathrooms, each unit will be furnished with a flat screen TV in the living room. Asset Campus Housing also recently broke ground on a project at Texas A&M in College Station. Away from college campuses, Barrett and his family love to travel and just returned from Watercolor in Florida. He also enjoys throwing baseballs with Hudson in the backyard.
