Staples To Regulators On Monopoly Concerns: Look! Amazon Competes With Us!

Placeholder

With Staples’ merger with Office Depot consistently beaten back by regulators, Staples hopes to convince the FTC that Amazon is their major competitor, easing monopoly concerns.

Staples filed a motion last week to force Bezos’ online behemoth to shell out more than the “15 heavily redacted documents” it has already given up, in order to persuade the FTC to lift its block of the merger, RetailDive reports.

There’s been no easy button for the office supplier in its Office Depot merger—the FTC blocked the deal in December, saying it would stifle competition in B2B office supplies. The same merger was proposed back in 1997, and the FTC blocked it then as well for the same reasons. [RetailDive]
