If I Had A Hammer...

Peter, Paul, and Mary probably didn't have the IREM changing of guard in mind when they sang their famous song. It's tradition for the org's outgoing president (in this case, Machen Advisory Group prez Beth Machen) to officially relinquish his or her position by passing a gavel on to the successor. While that was the plan this year, the gavel somehow never made it to Scottsdale. But do property management professionals panic? Never. An enterprising IREM staffer instead found the perfect stand-in to pass along to new 2014 IREM president Joe Greenblatt, who's also CEO of Sunrise Management.

Here's Joe with son Jimmy and daughter Emily at that gala in his honor, where they spoke to the audience about their dad's accomplishments and what an honor it is for him and the entire family to have him serve in this new position. At Sunrise, Joe directs the day-to-day ops of the company, which has a portfolio of more than 12,000 residential units and offices in San Diego, Sacramento, Tempe, and Las Vegas. He's long been active in IREM's San Diego chapter and serves as a member of the IREM national faculty. On the charitable side, he's a board member for the Bobby Jo Lewis Foundation, which helps those affected by domestic violence, substance abuse, and poverty.

Introducing him at the gala is fellow San Diegan, mentor, and 1992 IREM president William Borsari.
