Record Number of $100M+ Homes Sold Last Year

More homes sold for nine figures in 2014 than in any other year. Granted, there were only five trophy properties worldwide that topped the $100M mark. But the rarefied air up there is a relatively new real estate sector element. Just one home joined the nine-figure club in 2013, down from four in 2012 and three in 2011, according to Christie's International Real Estate.

Three of the five most expensive sales were in the New York metro area: an East Hampton estate that went to hedge funder Barry Rosenstein for $147M, a $120M pile in Greenwich, Connecticut and a $100.5M penthouse in Manhattan's notorious One57. There was also a $146M villa sold in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, France and a $104M Hong Kong residence that traded hands. [Bloomberg]
