This Startup Keeps Tabs On Illegal Sublets

Placeholder

A NYC entrepreneur launched SubletSpy.com Sunday, a website that scours homesharing websites like Airbnb for illegal rentals.

SubletSpy, founded by Ari Teman, charges landlords a monthly rate to peruse Craigslist and Airbnb for their properties by finding clues to the address based on pictures and reviews posted, the New York Daily News reports.

Teman was soured on the whole sharing economy after renting his place out on Airbnb, only to have some less than sanitary customers.

Illegal listings potentially run rampant on the homesharing site—a 2015 Airbnb data release showed that 55% of its listing were for entire apartments, a good sign they're illegal. [NYDN
