National Data Center

NTT's big ol' undersea trunk line is heading to Cambodia. We've learned that the company plans to expand its undersea high-capacity cable by off-shooting its Japan-to-Singapore trunk line into the Asian country. (No fish or sea turtles could be reached for comment.) NTT's Chris Eldredge tells us the area is seeing strong economic growth with government incentives to invest there. “We think it's an emerging market,” he says. There are no plans to develop a data center just yet, but Chris hints that customers are already lined up.

Here's a map of the new undersea route. Most recently, NTT opened its fifth data center in Osaka on the heels of its RagingWire acquisition, which makes it one of the largest data center operators in the world. But its next growth steps will bring it closer to home. Chris says NTT is seriously looking at expansion in the US. While he wouldn't comment on where, industry reports say NTT has eyed markets like Dallas, Chicago, and New Jersey.
