National Data Center

Equinix is readying construction of its latest Tokyo data center, TY5. For Equinix, it's a way to capture demand from what it sees as a $14B industry by 2016 (this despite Japan officially hitting recession this quarter). The 55k SF facility in Tokyo's financial district (that is close to the Japenese Exchange and the Tokyo Commodity Exchange) will supply 725 cabinets and will open by Q1 2016. Equinix's Kei Furuta (here with Equinix's Brian Lillie and Samuel Lee) says Japanese demand is being driven by the cloud, mobile and financial service industries, especially given that “Tokyo is a major international finance center that houses some of the world's largest investment banks, trading platforms and insurance companies.”
