Jeff Bezos Becomes America's Third-Richest Person

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has jumped the Koch brothers to become America's third-richest person after the online retailer rose more than $35 on Friday.

Amazon shares closed at $599.03 on Friday, adding $2.9B to the billionaire's fortune, and bringing his net worth to $53.2B. Since January, his fortune has risen $24.6B, roughly the same amount as Mark Zuckerberg's, and Google's Larry Page and Sergey Brin's gains combined.

Bezos is now the fifth-richest person in the entire world. He was 20th just this January.

On the flip side, Walmart's Walton family isn't having the same luck. The family is one of the worst-performing billionaires of the year, losing $43.4B. That means each of the four heirs lost about a quarter of their net worth. [Bloomberg]
