Three Regal Cinemas across SoCal are expected to close.

Three Regal Cinemas locations in Southern California will close as part of the parent company's reorganization following its bankruptcy filing earlier this month, the Orange County Register reported.

The Anaheim Hills 14 on Santa Ana Road and Westpark 8 in Irvine have already closed, as some moviegoers found out when they showed up to see a movie with tickets purchased online, CBS 2 News reported. The Calabasas Stadium 6 is also expected to close.

“The pandemic was an incredibly difficult time for our business, with the enforced closure of cinemas and huge disruption to film schedules that has led us to this point,” Cineworld CEO Mooky Greidinger said in a statement.

Cineworld said earlier this month that it was planning to get out of leases for at least 20 of its more than 500 U.S. locations, The Wall Street Journal reported. It was also expecting to negotiate for better lease terms with landlords across the country.

In 2021, Pacific Theatres Exhibition Corp. filed for bankruptcy and closed its eponymous theaters and ArcLight Cinemas locations. Some have been reopened by other operators, while others are still waiting for their second act.
