A huge new development from the Harridge Development Group is being proposed at Crossroads of the World that would require tearing down the former headquarters for The Hollywood Reporter.

It would be one of six buildings torn down for the project at 6713 Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood. The project would have a hotel and two residential buildings, according to an environmental impact report.

A Historic Cultural Monument application was just filed in an attempt to save the Hollywood Reporter building, Curbed Los Angeles reports.

In the event the LA Cultural Heritage Commission decides to review the application, the property may be spared. If the building attains monument status, the City of LA could delay its demolition up to one year to explore ways to preserve it.

The building dates back to the 1920s and has as its origins a menswear shop called Sunset House by the founder of The Hollywood Reporter, William Wilkerson.

In 2010, a survey of the Hollywood area conducted by the Community Redevelopment Agency identified the property as historically significant and potentially eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places

The building has been vacant since the LA Weekly moved out nine years ago.
