Former Headquarters Of Catalina Swimwear Could Become Lofts

The old headquarters of Catalina Swimwear Co (San Pedro and Winston streets) in Little Tokyo dates back almost a century.

Now new life may be breathed back into the building after it's been vacant and falling into disrepair for years. There are plans to turn the six-story building into live/work lofts.

Newport Beach’s Statewide Acquisitions Corp bought the building in March for $20.5M, according to Urbanize LA.

The firm plans to pay $11M to convert the building, now called "The Catalina," into 78 live/work lofts and 7k SF of commercial space on the ground floor. There also would be 14 penthouse units on the sixth floor.

The adaptive reuse project is being designed by Omgivning, which plans to incorporate designs that pay homage to the building’s history, including a mural of a Catalina Swimwear pinup girl. [ULA]
