Appeal Filed Against $300M Overhaul Of Redondo Beach

Placeholder

Some opposed to the huge overhaul of the Redondo Beach waterfront filed a challenge to the $300M development this week.

Members of the group Rescue Our Waterfront are protesting the Harbor Commission’s decision earlier this month to approve CenterCal Properties' planned overhaul of 35 acres, including the area stretching from Seaside Lagoon to the Redondo Beach pier.

The legal appeal accuses the City of Redondo Beach Harbor Commission of not fully vetting the developer's Environmental Impact Report and claims the project violates city and state zoning laws, among other things, according to the Daily Breeze.

The 439-page appeal was filed by activist Jim Light and others opposing the project, which would include replacing the pier's parking structure, and adding restaurants, retail space, a movie theater, a 120-room hotel and creative office space.

CenterCal Properties' management says the appeal was expected.

The City Council will now have to vote on the project. [DB]
