Nonprofit Suing, Saying L.A. Hid Height Of Sunset Boulevard Project

Fix The City, a nonprofit group suing L.A. over Frank Gehry's Sunset Strip project, is accusing the city of misleading the public over the height of the development.

The organization claims, in legal documents just filed, that L.A. officials did not make the necessary findings that would merit lifting the current covenant at the site. The covenant, which dates back decades on the property, limited development on the site to 45 feet tall, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The L.A. City Council allowed part of the residential and retail project to reach 178 feet when it approved the project from Townscape Partners three months ago.

The height restriction only applies to the shopping center currently on the site, according to the L.A. Department of City Planning, which said the restriction does not apply when it comes to new applications for projects.

Fix The City is also arguing, among other things, L.A. failed to accurately analyze the impact of traffic and emergency response times in the area as a result of the project.
