The Earvin "Magic" Johnson Park in Willowbrook in South LA could soon be transformed with an amphitheater, an event center, a reflecting pool and a sports complex, thanks to a new plan to renovate the 104-acre park.

The LA County Board of Supervisors recently approved the expansion plans, which involve a six-phase project and annexing nearby sites of the former Ujima Village Apartments and a daycare center, according to Curbed. The project could take 18 years and cost at least $135M.

Area residents have complained of security concerns and possible contamination of the pond. Environmental concerns will have to be addressed before the first phase of construction can get underway. [Curbed]
