LA Ranks High for Green

Los Angeles

LA ranks among the nation's top 10 cities with the highest percentage of green commercial space, according to a new study by CBRE and the Netherlands' Maastrict University. With 20% of our commercial buildings and half of our square footage now certified as green, LA grabbed the No. 6 spot on the 2014 Green Building Adoption Index. This puts us behind markets like San Francisco, Chicago, Houston, Atlanta and America's greenest city: Minneapolis. The study defined "green" as having either an Energy Star label or LEED certification. CBRE Greater LA and OC Region president Lew Horne calls the ranking another reason for companies to choose LA. The index is the first project completed under CBRE’s Real Green Research Challenge, launched in 2012 with a $1M commitment to fund sustainability research and innovation.
