21 Women Who Will Shape The Future Of UK Real Estate
On the morning of last year’s Bisnow UK Women Leading Real Estate event, Real Estate Balance released its biannual survey of diversity in UK commercial property. For the audience at what is always a celebratory event, it made for sombre reading.
“The results paint a fairly damning portrait of gender balance in the industry, showing that equality at board and executive levels hasn’t shifted significantly since Real Estate Balance conducted its first survey nearly a decade ago,” the report said.
It pointed out that below board and executive level, gender balance in particular has improved dramatically. But the path to the very top remained, to a large degree, closed off.
Some in real estate try and paint the industry as a meritocracy, but as this year’s list of UK Women Leading Real Estate honourees shows, the lack of diversity at the very top is not due to a lack of quality in the rung just below the boardroom.
Our list, as always, is an incredible array of female leaders who are innovating and excelling in every part of the industry — starting businesses, running teams, pivoting the strategic direction of companies with billions of pounds of assets under management.
That the talent is there in property is unarguable. Companies just need to harness it.
We hope you can join us at this year’s Women Leading Real Estate event, which will be held at British Land’s Dock Shed building at the Canada Water mixed-use scheme on 6 November. There will be lots to celebrate and plenty to ponder.
