A team of intrepid explorers from BNP Paribas Real Estate raised in excess of £30k for its official charity partner, Alzheimer’s Society, by scaling nine peaks in just under 63 hours.

The Nine Peaks Challenge, a unique initiative conceived by BNP Paribas Real Estate, saw 19 members of staff from across the business, ages 24 to 56, climb the three highest peaks in each of Scotland, England and Wales in 62 hours and 45 minutes, beating the target time of 72 hours.

The team, which included the firm’s COO and CFO, walked a total of 64 miles, covering 44,000 feet of ascent and descent, and even managed to climb a "bonus" 10th peak, adding Cairngorm, Scotland, at 4,000 feet. The three-day quest followed a four-month grueling training schedule, which prepared the team for the ordeal both physically and mentally.

The challenge is the first of its kind and sets a new standard in charity endurance events in the UK. The team, which has so far raised money through a host of company-wide fundraising activities, will now continue its efforts, hoping to reach a new target of £45k.

The money raised will go towards the Side by Side befriending service, where Alzheimer's Society provides support and training to volunteers in order to help people with dementia do more of what they enjoy.
