Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro’s proposal for a new luxury boutique hotel in the heart of Covent Garden has been approved. Westminster City Council gave his partner, Capital & Counties, advised by Gerald Eve, consent for the 83-key hotel three months after plans were submitted.

De Niro teamed up with Capco Hotels (part of Capital & Counties) and BD Hotels for the project. He will be joint operator of the building, which also features a spa, a members’ club and two restaurants, according to the Evening Standard.

The new hotel will occupy six Victorian and early 20th-century buildings in Wellington, Tavistock, Burleigh and Exeter streets. It will be the second hotel project for the actor. With two other investors, he owns the fashionable Greenwich in Manhattan’s Tribeca district.

Work on the Covent Garden development will start next year and finish in 2019.  [ES]
